Basmati Rice


Simple, tasty and aromatic Basmati Rice.

Portions:
As side dish: ¼ cup rice per person
As main dish: ½ cup rice per person

  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 diced onion
  • 1 tablespoon cardamon seed
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Oil (peanut, corn, canola or grapeseed)


Put oil in a pot and place on maximum heat.
Add Onions and spices. Mix until light brown.

Add rice and stir until rice gets white in the middle.
Do not burn.
Add water and stir.
Bring to minimum heat and cover for 20 - 25 minutes.

If you can, remove big chunks of cloves and cardamon before serving. Fennel is OK to leave in, it’s small and you don’t really notice it.

    Can I cook brown basmati rice the same way or would it require different directions?

    you can cook brown basmati rice the same way, but it will take longer to cook. Probably 30 to 35 minutes.
